Watermelons are large, nutritious fruits packed with water content. I haven’t met too many people who do not like watermelon, but this doesn’t mean its fine for animals necessarily. So let’s take a look, can rabbits eat watermelon safely?
I haven’t given my bunnies any personally but I have spoken with a couple of people who have fed watermelon to their pets. The skin, the hard outer part, and the watery fleshy part in the middle. They advised that you can do so, but only as a few rare treat. There is quite a lot of sugar in watermelons, as there are in most fruits.
Therefore it’s a treat, not part of their diet. We all enjoy treating our pets and seeing them happy, but be very careful. Too much misguided love is a bad thing! If you notice they have wetter poop than normal or have a tummy upset remove all treats immediately.
You should be feeding your rabbits Timothy Hay and some pellets along with fresh water at all times. Treats are to be given on rare occasions. Given in moderation it’s absolutely fine, and it’s always nice seeing a happy bunny.
