Can Rabbits Eat Potatoes

Potatoes are a staple food found in all kinds of dishes and diets. They are starchy and rich in important nutritional content that make them an excellent choice as part of a balanced diet for us.

So, can rabbits eat potatoes?

No, they cannot not. Potatoes are too high in starch and are quite toxic to rabbits. This includes the skins, or peel or the potatoes too. I’ve heard of people throwing the peels in for their bunny after peeling the potatoes for themselves, but this really isn’t a good idea. There is a high risk of your rabbit having an upset stomach and diarrhea.

A small part of a rabbits diet can be made up from leafy greens and other vegetables that are safe for rabbits to eat. For the most part however, your rabbit should be eating Timothy Hay and some nutritional pellets. As well as drinking plenty of fresh, clean water.

Don’t take risks with foods you are not sure about, or as with potatoes now know they should not be eating. Rabbits have fragile digestive systems and should be eating plenty of fiber to keep a healthy system.
