Oatmeal is a great, hearty breakfast food that I’m sure we’ve all eaten plenty of times. Oatmeal is made from oat groats that have gone through a process of being rolled, crushed, or ground down.
There are a few different types of oats, known as white oats, coarse oatmeal, pinhead oats, Irish oatmeal, but they are all very similar. Oat are high in carbohydrates and are an energy food, but can rabbits eat instant oatmeal safely?
Oatmeal is actually fine to feed rabbits in small amounts. It’s been used at shelters to help give orphaned bunnies some much needed nutrition. The important part is to make sure it’s sugar-free, and don’t add anything else to the oats. Just feed it to them dry and see how they get on with a small amount at first.
Healthy adult bunnies should be grazing on hay throughout the day and eating some pellets and vegetables to maintain a balanced and healthy diet. Rabbits need a lot of fibre in their diets so look for foods high in fibre and always check what you are giving them is safe to do so.
