If you have horses as well as rabbits you will notice they are both eating a lot of hay. You’re probably wondering, can rabbits eat horse hay? Can you share the hay between them to save some money buying in bulk or save time?
You probably can as both animals eat similar hay. You do need to be very careful about what is in the hay blend you’re feeding your horses though, so check the content out and see what’s in there. But in my experience, most of the blends are fine.
Ideally you should be feeding your bunnies Timothy or Meadow hay. But they can eat standard horse hay. If the hay has a lot of alfalfa in, it may be a little rich for older bunnies. Younger rabbits will enjoy the extra nutrition and fiber.
The most important thing is that your rabbits are getting enough fiber and nutrition. This comes from hay, pellets, and fresh leafy greens. If you notice anything that suggests your pets are not completely happy then make the necessary diet changes.
