Can Rabbits Eat Ham

Can Rabbits Eat Ham

I’m surprised how often people ask me, can rabbits eat ham, bacon, or other meats? Ham is pork, and comes from pigs. It often has additives like salt and smoke added to give it extra flavour, and it’s easy to end up with some scraps you don’t want.

You shouldn’t be giving these scraps to your rabbits however, save it for cats or dogs. Rabbits are herbivores, this means they do not eat meat. They eat vegetables and other leafy greens. Think about it this way, would you offer ham to a vegetarian?

I didn’t think so. Plus, if your bunnies did try and eat it they may get sick. So just don’t leave ham anywhere they may find it, it’s just not worth it. Keep the fresh hay available at all times, add some pellets and fresh vegetables, this will keep your bunnies happy and healthy.
