Can Rabbits Eat Cabbage

Cabbages and rabbits are synonymous, as are carrots. Images and TV programs always portray rabbits going around digging up cabbages and eating them, but can rabbits eat cabbage without getting sick?

Yes, they can.

Rabbits shouldn’t eat as much vegetables as a lot of people think however. You should be providing them with around a cup full of different leafy greens and vegetables a day. Try a mix up the amount of different vegetables to keep it interesting and cover a wide range of vitamins and minerals.

Sure, you can give them a whole cabbage chopped up on occasion if you have one. But try to mix up the types of vegetable they are eating. A rabbit eats mostly Timothy hay and some pellets in their diet. This provides them with the nutrition and most importantly fiber that they need to stay healthy.

When introducing new foods always try a small amount first and see how you bunnies react. If you see they are experiencing an upset stomach then stop feeding them cabbage immediately and keep them on hay and pellets until they are back to normal.
