Bread is the staple of the typical diet for us and we will eat bread most days in some form or another. It’s common for people to throw old bread out for birds to eat, or to feed it to other animals. It’s not good for all animals however, and there are lots of different types of break to consider.
If you are part of the percentage of the population who do not eat crusts you have probably considered giving it to your bunny. So, can rabbits eat bread crusts and is it safe for them to do so?
No, I wouldn’t feed your rabbit bread or crusts. Bread is high in starch and carbohydrates, two things that’s hard for bunnies to digest. They need a diet high in fiber and good nutritional content. Your bunny should be eating a lot of Timothy Hay and rabbit pellets, as well as drinking plenty of fresh water.
They do need some leafy greens and other roughage in their diet, but bread does not come into this. Rabbits can be temperamental when it comes to their diets, so always air in the side of caution and keep them on the good stuff. Keep treats to a minimum.
