Basil is a herb that is used in lots of meals and cooking and a lot of people grow it in their gardens. I’ve grown some before in a little herb pot on my kitchen windowsill and used it in cooking.
So, if you have plenty of basil, can rabbits eat basil?
Yes, they can. Herbs are like other leafy vegetables, you can give them to your bunnies to supplement their diet but only in small amounts. Some of the stronger smelling herbs may put them off, but basil doesn’t smell very strong, and it’s scent is actually quite nice.
A rabbits diet is made up mostly from Timothy hay and pellets. You can give them a cup of leafy greens and herbs a day to help mix up their diet and they will benefit from this. Just keep an eye for any stomach upset or digestive issues. Rabbits are sensitive to foods that don’t agree with them, so keep the greens and treats simple and to a minimum.
